Time to go?

Posted: October 10, 2020 in Uncategorized

Hi.

I have been contemplating winding this blog down on WordPress.

I think with the advent of Social Media so easy to use and view this medium has been superseded.

Also its a real git to actually upload anything on here, especially now they have introduced blocks I am struggling to upload content. No I am not a luddite I embrace technology and am abreast with all of it.

So, what do you think? In the immortal words of the Clash, Should I stay or should I go?

You can of course catch up with me on SM.

Peace out

Mark

Hello.

Apologies for lack of posts, been busy and on holiday etc etc.

Back in the swing with a double whammy, I visited Damien at pullthetrigger in Plymouth recently and he kindly loaned me a couple of knives to review.  So I want to do this as a double so I can return them to him, also as they are not mine I do not want to damage in away hence this is a table top review.

I also want to review a few more non Knifey products for you and get back to the EDC, survival and bushcraft genre.

So first up, we have the Benchmade Snody, this is a discontinued model sheath knife in the medium size range,
made with a good and hard D2 tool steel blade just over 3.5″ full tang handle with wine wood scales, encased in a color dyed leather carry sheath with belt loop and snap over strap.

Thats enough tech talk whats it actually like?

The first time I handelled this knife I noted my haand sat back to the rear of the handle, which felt a little strange for a natural grip but felt comfy a slight change in grip position and i could choke quite nicely down on the handle toward the front.  Nice bit of Jimping for your index finger for fine work will help too.

Its a Benchmade, not a great deal of press in the UK with only the Grip and Mini Grip getting the lime light, but right up there with Spyderco in the USA.

Its a quality fixed blade, well made and like a razor,  it would be ideal as a pack knife, small sheath knife on the belt, even the sheath is well made with a nice clasp to secure in place.

Its quality reflects the price if you can find one they did retail for $125 ish, if I came accross one I would certianally consider buying one at the right price.

Next up is a Gavko knife, Michal Gavac is a maker in the USA who makes a knife the way he wants then sells them online, kudos indeed doing it his way and he doesn’t seem to have trouble selling them.

This little friction folder made around 3.5 – 4 years ago, in CPM154CM steel, stabilized maple burl with g10 liners.

The scales look lovely and for a small knife it fits my medium sized hands well.

A nice recurve on the blade makes paring and cutting tasks more than manageable.

Personally I do not get Friction folders, I have had a couple and can’t get on with them, I do not see the point of having an ‘extra’ bit of metal hanging out the back, either carry a folder or a fixed blade, but this does make a folder more secure, horses for courses I suppose nit I am not a fan.

Michal does make many different styles of knife and his page is well worth a visit.
